Velo Vetta was founded by mechanical engineer Ed O’Malley on a simple observation: athletes obsess over aero on frames, helmets, and wheels — but no one had ever designed a cycling shoe with the same engineering rigor. Boots that saved watts existed by accident, not by design.
So Velo Vetta built one. From Boulder, Colorado, using computational fluid dynamics — the same aerospace-industry tools used to design aircraft — iterated through hundreds of shape variations, then handed the winning design to Treviso, Italy. That’s the region where Sidi, Gaerne, La Sportiva, Asolo, and Dalbello all make their shoes. The heart of Italian shoe-making.
The result: The Monarch. The first cycling shoe with issued aerodynamic design patents. The first shoe verified in a wind tunnel to be faster than the industry benchmarks. And still made by hand in the same Italian factory that has been shaping cycling shoes for decades.
