Train Hard. Style Harder.

When Kristin Mayer started Betty Designs in 2010, women had two options in triathlon: race in a bikini, or wear a men’s-cut kit that didn’t fit right. She saw the gap because she was in it — an age-grouper since ’95 who’d raced in bikinis herself, and a designer with the pedigree to solve the problem.

Kristin’s background: Lead Footwear Designer at L.A. Gear in the early ’90s. Then years as a freelance designer for Zoot Sports, Kestrel Bicycles, Triathlete Magazine, and the World Triathlon Corporation. She knew endurance apparel from the inside. What she built with Betty Designs was the answer to a question no one else in the industry was asking — what if women’s tri kits looked like they were designed for women?

“Betty Designs was founded on the belief that women should never have to choose between performance and style.”

Fifteen years and a cult following (they call themselves the Betty Squad) later, the answer holds. Bold patterns. Race-day fit. #BADASSISBEAUTIFUL.

The Skull + Butterfly

Strong. Beautiful. Both.

The Betty Designs logo is a skull crossed with a butterfly. It started with a necklace Kristin wore during races — a superstitious little emblem she’d touch when she needed to toughen up. The butterfly came later. The two together are the whole idea: badass and feminine, at the same time, on purpose.

“Racing with the boys while looking like a girl is the heart + soul of the brand.”
